BOUNDLESS
Making BOUNDLESS has been such an experience. I think it’s a lot like what having a job that I really like would be like, in that I have to make sure that it is working every week, but it also comes with a support system (Amy, Zak, Station Management). What is most helpful is that there is accountability: every week we need to create 1 hour of content, and, because it is being broadcast live, it needs to be somewhat polished.
The content is very comforting too, it is a safe space where I can bring in my thoughts, ideas, and questions, which, when we explore them, help us and our listening community grow.
It is such a work of collaboration, communication, and compromise. The difference between being the only person in the studio, being one of two people in the studio, and being one of three people in the studio is severe. This is best reflected in how we plan the episodes. When I am alone and know that I have complete control, I don’t worry much about the the show because I trust myself entirely, and as long as I have some music and an interview to play I am very comfortable. When there is a second person in the studio, it is a different story, because I need to be communicating with them, and we need to be on the same wavelength, so there must be some sort of plan ahead of time. With three people the show can run smoother than ever or be total chaos, and we need to have a pretty exact show plan, so that all of us are on the exact same page because it’s much harder to communicate a change to two other people than to myself or just one other. Too many cooks is totally a thing, but only when we don’t have time to be adapting (during the show), if, beforehand, we are doing the prep work together, and doing it well, everything runs incredible.
BOUNDLESS proposes another question of ending, because we are not sure what we will do with it, when Zak and I are no longer in high school. But we plan to continue it for as long as we can.

Quarter 3
I am making a weekly radio show with Amy and Zak. We play music, interview artists, and talk about contemporary queer culture. At the end of last semester we were still training to be WGDR radio broadcasters, we have completed that training, and are now 6 episodes in.
Working in the radio station is great. It’s just like operating the light board, but instead of lights it’s volumes. It is very satisfying.
There are struggles too. Working with other people is always challenging, especially in situations where I feel a bit anxious, which I do at the radio station because the show is live and needs to be almost exactly an hour long.
Making the radio show has inspired me to make more work with sound. I have been experimenting with with the sounds and recordings that I have been saving on my computer. There is something new brewing for sometime soon.
